A Real-World Case Study: Color Consistency from Concept to Production

Introduction

In 2008, a specialty retailer’s customer base requested a rich dark brown. After much
research, the Trend team identified the 2009 brown as ‘Chocolate’. At a quick glance the
team was excited as color was pulled from archives, which suggested much of the color
development work was completed.
Thus the company would be on-time and the cost of developing the color for production would be low. As the Color team took over to take the color into production, the discovery was made that the amount of color standards from archives had been depleted, the remaining standards had aged and the color service that made the original cotton standard had closed its doors. Therefore, the color would need to be re-engineered with a different color service.
