2010-Color Measurement Data Correlation

Color Measurement Data Correlation

Roland Connelly, X-Rite Inc.

Introduction

Many companies share color measurement data with their supply chain partners.
Specifiers and color standards communicate color standards; suppliers and mills
communicate lab dip results; and merchandisers compare products to be merchandized together. In each case, data is useful only if it doesn't include significant error
contribution from the participation of multiple measurement systems. As supply chain
partners improve their use of common procedures, it becomes more important to reduce
inter-instrument differences as much as possible. This study analyzed the results of
measurements of textile, plastic, and paper samples on multiple spectrophotometers from
different manufacturers, both in a lab setting and within multiple supply chain partners.
The use of profiling to assure data conformity was also tested using multiple sets of
standards.
